Trade for a better world
Posted on 05 March 2008 by John Coster
Trade should be everybody’s business as it involves us all, whatever we do, wherever we live, every day. It’s an integral part of thinking globally.
Stop for a moment and think about the tea or coffee you drank this morning, the car you drove to work or dropped off the children at school, the computer you are reading this at. Think of the furnishings in your home and the last holiday you had.
Globalisation means that both rich and poor countries can play their part in the world economy. This process is changing how world trade takes place and is permeating every part of our daily lives.
This trade generates wealth for these countries and helps their citizens to obtain a better quality of life both now and for future generations too.
Taking part in world trade gives developing countries the opportunity to achieve economic growth but only if managed properly with responsibility.
